Calgary acquires Potential No. 1 Goalie

CALGARY-After seemingly playing musical chairs in net this past season, it seems like the Calgary Flames have found a No. 1 net minder for next season.

The Flames acquired goalie Brian Elliott for a second-round and conditional third-round pick from the St. Louis Blues on Friday during the NHL Draft.

Elliott went 23-8-6 this season, leading the NHL with a .930 save percentage and was tied with Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson for second with a 2.07 goals-against average in 42 regular-season games, splitting time with Jake Allen.

The 31-year-old also helped the Blues reach the Western Conference Final for the first time in 15 years, going 9-9 with a 2.44 GAA and .921 save percentage in 18 starts.

Elliott is 165-99-32 with a 2.40 GAA and .914 save percentage in 323 career regular-season games. He is 15-19 with a 2.49 GAA and .911 save percentage in 37 playoff games.

As mentioned earlier, St. Louis will receive two draft picks in return. They will be receiving Calgary’s 35th pick in this year’s draft, as well as a conditional third-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft.

Elliott has one more year remaining on his most recent contract, a three-year deal with an average annual value of $2.5 million.
