Team to Pay Homage to Club’s Inaugural look


ST. LOUIS-This season, the NHL celebrates its 100th season of play. In the same manner, various teams are also celebrating their 50th season in the league. One of them is the St. Louis Blues.

This year, the Blues will take part in the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic when they face their longtime bitter rival, the Chicago Blackhawks. As usually is the case in these outdoor games, both teams will be wearing jerseys that a little different from the ones they typically wear.

Today, St. Louis unveiled the ones they will be wearing, and those fans who have followed the team since their inaugural season will see a very familiar look on the ice.

The Blues’ jersey, and uniform, for the Winter Classic is an exact replica of what the team wore during the 1967-68 season when they joined the NHL as an expansion franchise.

In a statement, St. Louis chairman Tom Stillman said the team was looking to pay tribute to the franchise’s original team, stating, “In celebration of our 50th Anniversary, we are proud to pay tribute to our original uniforms and the franchise pioneers who first wore them in 1967.”

The team also announced that the jersey can now be purchased by fans at the True Blues Authentic Team Store at Scottrade Center or online at These are the only retailers with jerseys featuring the authentic Winter Classic patch.

The 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic will be played January 2 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
