Bud Norris Dealt to Needy Dodgers

On Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired pitcher Bud Norris, minor leaguer Dian Toscano, a player to be named later and cash from the Atlanta Braves.

The Braves acquired minor league pitchers Caleb Dirks and Phil Pfeifer.

The Dodgers need starting pitching in a bad way right now. Earlier today, the team announced that ace Clayton Kershaw will be placed on the 15-day DL due to back issues.

Norris has been up and down this year with the Braves. He started the season in the rotation but after struggling, he was moved to the bullpen. Bud has since rejoined the starting rotation and has been seeing success.

In 29.1 innings since coming back to the rotation; Norris has a 2.15 ERA.

Norris signed a one year deal with a Braves worth $2.5 million. He is still owed $1.3 million for the rest of the year.

With Kershaw going on the DL, the Dodgers have five starting pitchers on the DL. Norris will look to fill in and help out until some of them can return.

The Braves received two 23 year old pitchers who are in the lower levels of the minors. Dirks was a 15-round pick by the Dodgers in 2014 and ranks 30th among their prospects. Pfeifer was a third-round pick in 2015 and is now in Class-A advanced ball.
