Shaw to be Restricted Free Agent July 1

MONTREAL-While many NHL dreams are becoming a reality tonight during the NHL Draft, some NHL players are facing the reality of the business side of things. There quite a few moves during draft night and the Montreal Canadiens got things going this evening.

Montreal acquired forward Andrew Shaw from the Chicago Blackhawks, as well as sending forward Lars Eller to the Washington Capitals.

Shaw, who’s scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1, had 14 goals and 34 points for the Blackhawks this season. He has 70 goals and 67 assists in 322 NHL games, all played with Chicago.

In exchange for Shaw, the Blackhawks received the 39th and 45th picks in this year’s draft.

Eller, on the other hand, had 13 goals and 26 points for the Canadiens this season in 79 games. In 442 career regular season games, he has tallied 73 goals and 156 points.

Montreal received a second-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft and the 2018 NHL Draft in exchange for Eller.
