Carmelo Anthony to replace Kevin Love for the 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend.

Recently, the Cleveland Cavilers found out that they would be without their star Forward Kevin Love, due to a knee injury.  And with the rumors of LeBron James wanting his friend Carmelo Anthony to accompany him in Cleveland, it’s ironic that Carmelo will be replacing Love in the 2017 All-Star Game.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made the decision February 15th.

This will be Anthony’s 10th NBA All-Star selection and 8th consecutive appearance. Anthony is averaging 23.2 points (tied for 16th in the NBA), 6.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 55 games this season.

Anthony recently passed Charles Barkley for 25th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Despite a rocky season, I believe Anthony deserves his 10th All-Star selection.  Even though he is a high volume shooter he still puts up consistent stats.

The Ballad of Carmelo in The Big Apple

Almost five years ago Anthony was traded to the New York Knicks. The Knicks have been competitive, but have only made the playoffs once, in the 2012-2013 season.

Five years later the New York Knicks are struggling and Phil Jackson wants to hit the reset button. Anthony and Jackson have been bumping heads throughout the season, but Anthony refuses to waive his no trade clause.  Probably the best landing spot for Carmelo would be  the Los Angeles Clippers.  Simply because they’re a small forward away from contending for a title.

The beginning of the season for the Knicks was promising, but now it feels like an episode of Everybody Hates Chris. Watching the Knicks this season has been a nightmare. No matter what Melo does, he is pressured to leave the Knicks.  And, for the past three years, the Knicks have been trying to trade Anthony.

Maybe the All-Star Game will help Anthony relax, gather his composure, and adjust for the second half of the season. This Sunday February 19th, 2017 at 8pm on TNT the NBA All-Star Game will take place at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
