Chip Ganassi Racing Hires Former Hendrick Exec As COO

Former HMS Exec Doug Duchardt will act as Chief Operating Officer For Chip Ganassi Racing

Chip Ganassi Racing has brought in an expert in the field of NASCAR, IndyCar and IMSA, as well as NHRA.

In addition to that, he has a 20 year career behind him with General Motors.

Doug Duchardt is his name, and he has some huge accolades behind him to lend to CGR.

His responsibilities will include increasing collaboration, performance and growth with CGR.

“I am excited to become a part of Chip Ganassi Racing,” said Duchardt. “I, along with the rest of the industry have always admired Chip and what he does across so many forms of racing. I’m also looking forward to competing in INDYCAR and IMSA once again.”

The 53 year old started with Hendrick Motorsorts in 2005 as VP of Development, in which he oversaw racecar design, engineering and production.


Duchardt left Hendrick in June of 2017.

He worked 12 full seasons with HMS where he helped create chassis for the organization.

Those chassis helped to win 6 consecutive championships, including 9 out of the last 11 for HMS.

He will assume his role immediately in preparation for the 2018 NASCAR season.

Duchardt will work closely alongside with managing directors Max Jones and Mike Hull.

Jones will manage the NASCAR operations and Hull will oversee operations for IndyCar and IMSA.

“We are all so pleased to get someone with both Doug’s racing credentials and his business acumen,” said Ganassi. “He has a lot of racing championships under his belt and a strong track record for running successful businesses and has the respect of the racing industry. Doug will be a great addition to help lead what I think is already a very good group of people.”

Prior to HMS, Duchardt spent 20 years with GM where he managed not only NASCAR initiatives but also NHRA and SCCA.

Duchardt is a graduate of Missouri University of Science and Technology with a mechanical engineering degree, and earned an Advanced Certifcate For Executives ar MIT’s Sloan School Of Management.
