Christmas Day Preview: Clippers @ Lakers

The Battle for Los Angeles on Christmas Day

Christmas Day is always a great time to celebrate what really matters in life. Which is why I try to spend as much of it as possible watching NBA games. What a great tradition this has become and I hope you all will join me.

This year, Christmas in the NBA will give us 5 nationally televised games: BOS @ NYK – GSW @ CLE – CHI @ SAS – MIN @ OKC – and the one that I’m currently writing about, the crosstown game between the Clippers and the Lakers.

The Clippers (22-8) are currently on an 11-game winning streak against the Lakers (11-21) who are reeling after their sensational start that had some Lakers fans betting too much money on their playoff hopes. The Lakers have lost 11 of their last 12 after getting off to a 10-10 start.

After a bad end to Novemeber, the Clippers have won 6 of their last 7 while battling some injury issues as Blake Griffin’s recent knee surgery has him sidelined for four to six weeks and Chris Paul’s hamstring has him questionable for Friday’s matchup against the Mavericks.

The game will be the Christmas Day finale as it tips off Sunday at 10:30 PM (EST) on ESPN.

As for a prediction, if Chris Paul plays, the Clippers win. If Paul doesn’t play, they probably still win. The Lakers defense has been atrocious lately and it shouldn’t get any better against one of the best offenses in the league.
