Citizen Soldier 400 At Dover Preview

This weekend, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rolls into Dover International Speedway to tackle the “Monster Mile”. The Citizen Soldier 400 is the 29th race of the 2016 season and the third race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. Last year, Kevin Harvick crushed the field to earn a must-have victory and secure his place in the next round of the chase.

First Chase Cut-Off: For four drivers, the dream of winning the 2016 series title will end when the checkered flag waves. Interestingly enough, no driver is in a “must win” situation. Even 16th place Chris Buescher is mathematically eligible to advance into the next round without a win on Sunday, although he would need serious misfortune to befall at least 4 drivers ahead of him. With no drivers locked in on points heading into the race, the stakes are high for all 14 chasers still vying for a spot in the next round.

Dover Domination: Dover has always been tough to master for even the most experienced drivers. However, if last year’s event is any indication, Kevin Harvick should be a serious threat to win. His obliteration of the field was impressive, as he led 355 of the 400 laps en route to the win. Another driver who is always a part of the conversation at Dover is ten time winner there Jimmie Johnson. Johnson has had a less-than-satisfactory season and another win there could springboard his campaign to take the Cup.

Young Guns: The first Sprint Cup race at Dover in 2016 was won by veteran driver Matt Kenseth. But he had a lot of competition from some of the series newcomers. Kyle Larson nearly won, bringing home a close second place finish. Now a winner on the tour, he should bring plenty of confidence and a fast car this weekend. Chase Elliott (third) and Ryan Blaney (eighth) also showed that the rookie class had enough speed to challenge the established contenders. Look for all three to run near the front on Sunday.

Below is some NASCAR Fantasy advice for the Citizen Soldier 400 and the drivers to consider and to avoid:

Drivers To Consider: Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Larson, Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr

Potential Sleepers: Chase Elliott, Kasey Kahne, Paul Menard, Trevor Bayne
