City/Real, Atletico/Bayern

Nyon, Switzerland – The 2015-16 UEFA Champions League (UCL) semifinals are now set with Manchester City v Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid vs Bayern Munich.

Manuel Pellegrini’s City, who is in the final four for the first time in their club’s history, will face against Zinedine Zidane’s side in Manchester on Tuesday, April 26 before making the trip to the Spanish capital on Wednesday, May 4.

Pellegrini is an old known man around the Santiago Bernabeu stadium having coached the Merengues for the 2009-10 season, winning 36 of his 48 games in charge, but losing out La Liga title to Barcelona by three points and then being sacked short after the season was ever.

Real Madrid are the heavily favorites in this match up as they have won 10 European Cups, last one, two years ago against Atletico Madrid in the final.

Both clubs have only matched against each other twice before in group stages, in the 2012-13 season — Madrid won 3-2 in Spain and drew 1-1 at City.

Atletico Madrid will finally get its chance at redemption after coming up short twice, in 1973-74 and 2013-14. The task will not be easy as they face a European giant in Bayern Munich on Wednesday, April 27 before the return at Munich on Tuesday, May 3.

The only time these clubs have met are in the finals of the 1974 season, where Bayern took the championship away.

Pep Guardiola will be going for his third Champions title after winning two with Barcelona in 2008-09 and 2010-11. This is also an opportunity at redemption for the Catalan manager who has come up short each time since taking over at Bayern in Champions. Needless to say, the draw will also spill a prospect of Guardiola pairing against the team he will be coaching next season when he takes over for Pellegrini on July 1.

The final is at the San Siro in Milan on Saturday, May 28.
