Claudio Ranieri Signs Extension With Leicester City Until 2020

Leicester, United Kingdom – Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has signed a new four-year contract with the Premier League champions the club announced.

The 64-year-old, who signed a three-year deal when he replaced Nigel Pearson as manager last summer, led Leicester to the Premier League title in his first season in charge.

He follows key players such as Jamie Vardy, Wes Morgan and Kasper Schmeichel in committing his future to Leicester.

The club said in a statement: “Leicester City Football Club is delighted to announce that its first-team manager, Claudio Ranieri, has signed a new contract with the Premier League champions.”

“From the moment I talked to the owners about their vision for Leicester City, I knew it was something I wanted to be part of for a long time,” added Ranieri.

“The energy that exists at this club – from the owners and the staff, to the players and supporters – is something very special. I am very happy and proud that I will be part of it for years to come.

“Last season, that spirit and our hard work helped us to achieve something magical. If we can continue to work hard, maintain our passion and continue to fight with all our hearts, I am sure we can continue to be successful together.”

The Italian manager was hired last year when Leicester was 5,000-1 to win the league, and avoiding relegation seemed the priority.

Instead, Ranieri guided the club to its first top-tier title by 10 points and a place in the Champions League.
