Los Angeles Dodgers Shut Down Ace After More Discomfort In Back

Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw has run into a setback in his recovery from a back injury. It’s been almost a month since Kershaw last pitched as he has dealt with a herniated disk in his back.

On June 26th, Kershaw made his last start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He gave up four runs in six innings and was dealt his second loss of the season.

Following that start, Clayton was placed on the 15-day DL. The Dodgers where expecting their ace to return sometime this week before this setback.

Kershaw pitched a simulated game after which it was determined he would be shut down for another length of time.

“Clayton, after he threw that live session, the next day Sunday didn’t feel great,” manager Dave Roberts explained before Tuesday’s game.

It is really unclear how far Kershaw will be setback but it could be as long as 2 weeks or more.

Good news is that the Dodgers have been able to go 11-6 without their ace. The Dodgers have used a patchwork of starting pitchers this season and will use Julio Urias to “replace” Kershaw on Thursday.
