Consistency The Key For Truex Pocono Success

Martin Truex Jr won his third career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in June 2015 at Pocono Raceway. For Truex, the win was the culmination of years of stellar runs on the 2.5 mile triangle. But the win is also merely the peak of a mountain of other strong performances Martin has enjoyed at the “Tricky Triangle”.

At first glance, one would see he has 3 top 5 and 7 top 10 finishes to go with an average finish of 15.5. Not overwhelming statistics by any stretch. But what Martin lacks in sheer numbers, he compensates for with consistency. Truex has finished every single one of those 21 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races he has started at Pocono Raceway. No small feat for any driver at any racetrack. But for a driver who has wheeled cars for three different teams at Pocono, slightly more impressive considering the track’s unpredictability and the strain it puts on mechanical components of the cars.

The other notable statistic that Truex has compiled at Pocono is 19 lead lap finishes in his 21 races. By comparison, defending series champion Kyle Busch has 23 starts but only 15 lead lap finishes at Pocono Raceway. Kyle also has failed to finish 5 of his Sprint Cup starts there, making the accomplishments of his Toyota counterpart that much more impressive. His 114 laps led are more than many of his top peers, including Busch, Matt Kenseth, and Kevin Harvick.

Though he may not set the place on fire every time his number 78 Furniture Row Toyota rolls off the team hauler at Pocono, there is little doubt that he will be in contention throughout the day. If you’re looking for a driver who will have a solid run, Martin Truex Jr is one to watch when the field takes the green flag Sunday afternoon.
