Could Kimi Raikkonen Give NASCAR Another Shot After F1 Career Ends?

Recent rumors around the F1 paddock is that former world champion Kimi Raikkonen maybe on the last leg of his career. The current Ferrari driver is being rumored to giving NASCAR another try after the 2016 season.

He started racing again with the Ferrari team in 2014 (after racing with them from 2007 to 2009) and has just three podium finishes in 39 races. For the last year, many have speculated that Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo has his eye on Raikkonen’s seat for 2017.

It’s his past NASCAR experience however that is fueling the latest round of rumors. Kimi has ran one race in each the Camping World Truck Series and the Xfinity Series in 2011 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. According to Tanja Bauer of Sky Sport News, Raikkonen could end up in a seat with Stewart-Haas Racing in 2017.

Right now though, there doesn’t seem to be room for Kimi Raikkonen as the team is at the max of four cars/drivers NASCAR currently allows. So if he were to join SHR, it would mean a current driver would leave. The best scenarios for that would be either Harvick or Patrick taking a hike (Kevin Harvick is currently in a contract year and Danica Patrick is signed through 2018).

But, anything is possible in this day of age in sports and Kimi possibly may shock the world if the rumors hold true. It will be a long wait for a straight answer on Kimi’s future though as the F1 season just started this past weekend.
