Cowboys Show Determination Against The NFL’s Best Rushing Defense

With December inching closer, NFL teams must establish their team identity and make a push for the post season. The Cowboys have established their team identity over the course of the season with their determination to run the ball all over opponents. The Baltimore Ravens came to Dallas with the league’s best rushing defense, allowing just under 75 yards a game. The Cowboys are the league’s best rushing offense and they were not going to be denied. They piled up over 100 rushing yards Sunday afternoon in their 27-17 victory over the Ravens.

Early on it looked like the Cowboys could possibly be upset at home as they struggled for much of the first half. Dallas was shut out in the first quarter as Baltimore didn’t surrender any points until Dak Prescott found Cole Beasley in the end zone with just under six minutes to go in the first half. The Ravens were playing solid and physical defense as they forced Dallas into several third and longs. They held Ezekiel Elliott to under 30 rushing yards in the first half. Baltimore took away Dallas‘ greatest weapon in the first half and showed how to slow the Cowboys down.

In the final six minutes of the second quarter, Dallas showed up and managed to put up ten points on the scoreboard. Prescott was able to get some completions to get rolling with the offense. The momentum shifted in Dallas‘ favor as the half came to a close. It was a slow first half as both teams struggled on offense for the most part. The game was there for the taking and the Cowboys took control in the second half as their star receiver came to life.

Dez Bryant capped off an impressive Dallas drive in the third with a four yard touchdown reception. Prescott threw a perfect back shoulder fade and Bryant was able to haul it in. Dallas finally had the lead and had the determination to feed Elliott and watch him wear out the stout Raven defense. Elliott didn’t break the 100 yard mark in this one, but he broke some big plays to open up the field for Prescott. Once again in the 4th quarter Dallas had the lead. Prescott found Bryant for a second score on a 13 yard crossing pattern to put Dallas up 24-10. For the first time all season Bryant looks fully healthy and it showed in is performance.

The Ravens marched right back down the field to answer Bryant’s touchdown with one of their own. Flacco found Steve Smith on a five yard touchdown pass to put the game back in reach. Both teams exchanged a few possessions before Dallas finally put the game away with a field goal by Dan Bailey. The Cowboys led 27-17 with under two minutes remaining as they kicked off to Baltimore. Joe Flacco and the Ravens‘ offense weren’t able to get anything done as the Dallas defense showed their determination to get a much needed stop. The Cowboys held the Ravens to just seven points in the second half and propelled their offense to put the game away.

Dallas improves to 9-1 on the season and find themselves with a short week as they prepare for their annual Thanksgiving day match up. Dallas will face their division rival Washington Redskins for the second time this season with their eyes set on a tenth straight win.
