Cowboys Look Sharp As They Pull Off A Big Win Over The Bengals

Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott shined as the Dallas Cowboys defeat the Cincinnati Bengals 28-14 on Sunday afternoon. The Cowboys looked sharp in every phase of the game Sunday against the Bengals. The Dallas offense continued to show effectiveness and efficiency throughout the game.

The Cowboys were matched up with the Bengals week five of the 2016 NFL season. Dallas entered the game with a 3-1 record led by their rookies, Prescott and Elliott. This contest was going to be the toughest test Dallas had faced. The Bengals are known to be an explosive and dangerous offense. However, the Cowboys defense was able to contain and limit the Bengals’ offense to just 14 points as Dallas looked very impressive and sharp on the defensive side of the ball.

Usually, the Cowboys’ defense is what costs them games. Sunday, it helped give them the lead by constantly harassing Andy Dalton and his weapons on offense. The Cowboys were able to apply great pressure on Dalton and earned four sacks on the day. The Dallas defense was able to win at the line of scrimmage and force their way into the backfield as they had five tackles for a loss against the Bengals.

The Dallas secondary looked sharp and sound as they were able to limit big plays. AJ Green was held to an abysmal four catches for 50 yards, but more importantly no touchdowns. Limiting AJ Green has likely given the Cowboys confidence going forward this season. Morris Claiborne, Brandon Carr, and Byron Jones have done a great job this season by not allowing many big plays. It seems like every guy is stepping up as the Cowboys’ defense improves every week.

Along with a stout and aggressive defense, the Cowboys continued to role on offense as they racked up 28 points. The Cowboys opened the game with a strong drive that was capped off with a 13 yard touchdown run by Ezekiel Elliott. They came out with energy and passion and it was on full display through the offense on Sunday. They gained 402 yards on offense, including a 60 yard touchdown run by Elliott early in the third quarter to put the game away.

Dak Prescott continues to impress fans with his play. His efficient and effective style of play has led the Cowboys to a 4-1 record. Prescott did cough the ball up on a blindside hit, however it wasn’t his fault. He has yet to throw an interception in his young NFL career and that’s the main headline as to why the Cowboys are succeeding.

Prescott earned a new rookie record by attempting 155 passes without throwing an interception. He’s now just seven attempts away from tying Tom Brady for most attempts without throwing an interception to begin a NFL career. He excelled in a big test for this Cowboys team as they faced the Bengals. He seems to rise to the occasion in big moments for the offense and makes the necessary plays for them to win.

The running game remains to be a strong asset for the Cowboys. Once again Ezekiel Elliott reached at least 130 rushing yards for the third straight game. He’s on a role with this offense and his success will only continue when Dez Bryant regains his health and returns to the field. Elliott gained 134 yards off of 15 carries. He found the end zone twice and his longest run was a 60 yard rush that went for six. Elliott’s average was an incredible 8.9 yards a carry.

The fourth overall draft pick from the 2016 NFL Draft has done nothing but please the Dallas coaching staff. No flaws can be found thus far into Ezekiel Elliott’s rookie season. They drafted him for a reason, and he’s showing why he was selected that high in the draft. In an era where so much emphasis is put on the passing game and a running-back-by-committee approach, it was a bit unusual for a team to select a running back that high in the draft. All the critics and doubters have been silenced as Elliott is on pace to reach over 1,700 rushing yards this season.

Overall, the Cowboys played very physical and looked incredibly sharp vs the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. They showed that they are for real this year and should be viewed as a legit contender. The Cowboys are now 4-1 through five games of the 2016 season.
