Cowboys Rally Together To Defeat Packers

The Dallas Cowboys played as a collective group together to knock off the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau 30-16 Sunday afternoon. Dak Prescott may have solidified his starting role in the offense with a fifth consecutive victory for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys improve to 5-1 on the season going into their bye week. Many questions have been answered regarding if the Cowboys are for real in 2016. After two impressive wins against top tier opponents in the Cincinnati Bengals and the Green Bay Packers, the Cowboys are atop the NFC East division. There were many skeptics that critiqued how the Cowboys were starting the year off based on who they defeated. Led by two rookies, the Cowboys delivered a monster win on the road.

The Packers have been known to have one of the NFL’s most prolific offenses for years. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers only managed to score 16 points against the banged up Cowboys defense. They were held to just two field goals in the first half. Rodgers fumbled the ball twice as the entire Packer offense looked sloppy and lost. The Packers simply couldn’t get it together against the Cowboys.

The Dallas defense is evolving right before our very eyes. The young guys like Cowboys safety, Byron Jones showed his lock down coverage ability as he saved what would have been a long touchdown pass to Packers receiver, Randall Cobb from Aaron Rodgers. The suspect Dallas defense is getting better pressure on opposing quarterbacks and they aren’t giving up big plays. As electrifying as the Dallas offense has been, the defense has stepped up big time and has given the Cowboys the ability to keep the lead in games.

Dak Prescott played well once again, even though he threw is his first career interception Sunday afternoon. He ended up throwing for 247 yards and three touchdown passes. The Cowboys elected to receive the opening kickoff and it paid off. They stormed down the field and capped it off with a touchdown pass to Cole Beasley to put the Cowboys up 7-0. Beasley has become Prescott’s favorite target as they seem to have a great connection and play very well together.

The turning point in the game was near the end of the first half. They Cowboys were pinned inside their own five yard line with little time left on the clock. Instead of playing conservative, they moved the ball quickly with a few big plays and Prescott threw a big touchdown pass to Brice Butler from 20 yards out. This gave Dallas a 17-6 lead going into half time.

Cowboys running back, Ezekiel Elliott had another outstanding performance. He rushed for 157 yards Sunday afternoon, his fourth game in a row with at least 130 rushing yards. The Cowboys went into Green Bay with the league’s best rushing attack and it was on full display Sunday against the number one ranked rush defense in the Green Bay Packers.

Elliott’s ability to contribute so much to this offense has helped Prescott develop as a passer. With an efficient and effective running game in which Dallas possesses, Prescott is supplied with more time to progress through his reads and find his receivers. The two rookies are on a roll together as the Cowboys cruise into their bye week on a five game winning streak.

Dez Bryant will likely be back for the crucial Sunday Night match up against a divisional foe in the Philadelphia Eagles week eight. Bryant will obviously help the Dallas offense and give them another weapon. Prescott has looked impressive without the star wide out in the lineup. With this big victory over the Packers, Dak Prescott may have earned himself the starting role for the Dallas Cowboys.
