Cristiano Ronaldo May Miss the Beginning of the Season

Lisbon, Portugal – Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury in the Euro 2016 final is threatening his chances to start Real Madrid’s new season on time.

Medical procedures by Portugal’s medical team have indicated that the damage sustained following a collision with Dimitri Payet during Sunday’s win over France showed damage to the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

Cristiano Ronaldo attempted to play on but was stretchered off in the 24th minute, with a problem which could now see his participation in the European Super Cup dashed.

Los Merengues will take on Europa League holders Sevilla in the August 9 encounter which leaves the 31-year-old facing a fitness battle as the traditional recovery period for the injury is anticipated to be around four weeks.

Real Madrid has yet to provide an update on the injury as the Portuguese striker is in Lisbon celebrating the championship win with the rest of his teammates.

Knowing the work ethic, it is likely that he will cut his vacations short to make it in time for the beginning of the La Liga season. However, Cristiano wants to play it all and will likely push to play before that time.
