The Dallas Cowboys Build a Wall

Cowboys pick up 5th-year option on Zack Martin

Jerry and Stephen Jones, like current President Donald Trump, had a vision building a wall. The wall would cost millions of dollars, but would help protect valuable assets. Well, the Dallas Cowboys wall is done, thanks to Zack Martin.

I’m not sure how the President’s wall is going.

Today, the Cowboys announced that they will pick up the 5th-year option on Martin’s rookie contract. The move will guarantee that Martin will be a Cowboy until at least the 2018 season. The goal still remains to sign Martin to a long-term deal.  Executive Vice President Stephen Jones called Martin’s deal the “number one priority” at the NFL Scouting Combine in February.

However, for the time being, the Cowboys have locked up the trio of studs along the offensive line. Three-time All-Pro center Travis Frederick and the Cowboys agreed to a six-year extension, worth over $56 million last spring. They also signed four-time All-Pro left tackle Tyron Smith to a lucrative 8-year, $110 million extension in 2014.

The Cowboys have been consistent through the years in resigning their own talent, while also adding needed depth the draft.

Continued Success

It is clear that the Dallas Cowboys would like to re-invent the success of the Cowboys during the early 90’s. Those teams featured the “Great Wall of Dallas,” Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikmen, and Michael Irvin. I personally think that this current collective group offensive linemen is good enough to make the offensive line of the 90’s jealous.

Aikmen, in his rookie season, did not experience nearly the level of success Dak did. Unlike Emmitt, Ezekiel Elliott didn’t win the rushing title. Finally, if there ever was a clone of Michael Irvin, his name would be Dez Bryant.

Of course, the thing missing from the current group of Cowboys are the Super Bowl titles. But Jerry Jones and crew seem to be investing in repeating the past success, anybody feeling a bit of deja vu?

The offense, like the team of the 90’s, is prepared to run up scores at an elite level. Buckle up folks!
