Darron Lee Selected 20th In The 2016 NFL Draft

NFL: Darron Lee

With the 20th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft the New York Jets have selected Linebacker Darron Lee from the Ohio State University.

Standing 6’1″ and weighing in at 232 pounds, this 21-year-old comes into the NFL after finishing an illustrious career with the Buckeyes. He was a three-star recruit coming out of New Albany, Ohio. There was a logjam at line backer during his Freshman year, so he red-shirted. He won the starting strong-side linebacker position in 2014 and never looked back. He racked up 81 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, 5 passes defended, and 2 interceptions. He won Defensive MVP honors in the Sugar Bowl win over Alabama.

In his redshirt sophmore year, Darron finished with 66 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 2 passes defended, and 1 interception. He earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors. He opted for the NFL leaving 2 years of eligibility behind.

Darron has superb athleticism and range. He shoots through gaps like a missile. Lee is an explosive tackler and diagnoses plays like a machine. He is strong in coverage and against the run. Darron can pretty much do everything as a linebacker.

Lee can get consumed by blocks and might need to develop the strength to get away from those type of blocks. He needs to improve his ability to stay clean and not over-run angles to the ball. He is a bit raw and is still learning the nuances of the position.

Darron is has a true build of a line backer and plays with excellent reactive athleticism. He closes hard and loves to strike and separate the man from the ball. When it comes to tackling, he’s a technician. His vision to diagnose and attack is a critical trait to becoming an All-Pro type of player. He’s a high effort player with a love for football. He is a high character person as well and is squeaky-clean when it comes to off-the-field issues. Lee is a versatile run-and-hit linebacker and his best fit is at weak-side linebacker in the NFL.

Darron is sound at the point of attack and will thrive on the next level.  He has potential to succeed with the Jets and should be an immediate help as a all-world, three-down linebacker.
