The Los Angeles Dodgers have brought up the 19 year old lefty Julio Urias from Triple A Oklahoma City to pitch on Friday night against the New York Mets. Urias is the number 2 ranked prospect in major league baseball.

In Triple A Oklahoma City Urias went 4-1 with a 1.10 ERA and an impressive 44 strikeouts in 41 innings pitched.

Although Urias is going to start on Friday, odds are that the young lefty will be used out of the bullpen for a majority of the season. Urias has never thrown more that 87 2/3 innings in a season so far in his career.

Before Urias’s stint in the minor leagues he played in the Mexican League for the Diablos Rojos and was purchased by the Dodgers when he was only 16 for a total of $450,000.

Urias only pitched 80 innings last season due to an in season cosmetic surgery operation for his left eye. Urias’s eye had developed a benign mass that partially closed his eye, however this did not have an affect on his pitching performance.

Urias will face the powerhouse New York Mets (27-19). The defending national league champion Mets look to put an end to the Dodger’s 4 game win streak with Jacob deGrom on the mound for the Mets.

Urias is replacing Alex Wood, who is currently dealing with sore triceps, when Urias makes the start he will become the first 19 year old pitcher to pitch for the Dodgers since Fernando Valenzuela in 1980.

Urias is known for his lightning fast pick off move, If he gets his off speed pitches working and limits walks, he might just come out with a win on Friday.
