Duck Commander 500 At Texas Motor Speedway Preview

This weekend, NASCAR’s finest tackle Texas Motor Speedway for the Duck Commander 500. It’s the first of many night races to be ran this season. In last year’s running, Jimmie Johnson edged out Kevin Harvick to win this race.

Super Johnson: Jimmie Johnson is off to a strong start this season, there’s no doubt about it. The defending Duck Commander 500 winner already has two wins to his name already this season and the “Superman” looks to add a third this weekend with his newly re-minted yellow numbers on the side of his car.

Rookies Look To Continue Their Hot Start: Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney have been neck and neck to start this season’s Rookie of the Year battle. But, that may continue for one of the two this weekend. Chase Elliott recorded his first XFINITY Series win as also a series rookie at Texas Motor Speedway in 2014 and is lurking on one this weekend, if not a top 5.

Kahne Continues To Let Down: Kasey Kahne qualified on the front row at Martinsville, and it took only a few laps before he sunk like a rock. He would finish 22nd. This No. 5 team is hard to figure out. It has the resources and a driver capable of winning, yet it can’t contend. Fortunately for Kahne, he heads to a track where he won back in 2006 for Ray Evernham. This weekend may be the place for him to rekindle the magic.

Will Logano Finally Log A Win?: It’s no secret that Joey Logano is one of the best as of recent at Texas Motor Speedway statistically. In 2014, he won the spring race by leading 108 laps. A late pit call by Todd Gordon gave Logano the teeth to take the final green-white-checkered restart over Jeff Gordon. Currently, Logano sits in fifth in the driver standings without a win. This weekend maybe the one where he can punch his ticket into the Chase.

No So Fun Fact: When was the last time Dale Earnhardt Jr. won at Texas Motor Speedway?  It was the spring race of the 2000, back when the No. 8 car sported Budweiser red for DEI. He was also a rookie then and his Father still had a win left in him before his fatal crash at Daytona the next season. Since then, Junior has four top sixes in four of his past five trips to Texas, but he hasn’t led a lap since the 2011 spring race.

Below is some NASCAR Fantasy advice for the Duck Commander 500 and the drivers to consider and to avoid:
