Defenseman had been out since November, had Abdominal Surgery this Month

ANAHEIM, CA-When looking at the rosters across the NHL, the Anaheim Ducks have one of the deepest on paper. That depth has been a key part to their success in recent seasons. It will be put to work over the next few weeks as defenseman Clayton Stoner is set to miss some time.

Stoner will be out 4-6 weeks after having undergone abdominal surgery earlier this month, the team announced on Thursday.

The 31-year-old blue liner had been out of the lineup since November 15. Two days later, Anaheim placed him on injured reserve. He then had the surgery on December 21.

It’s been a bit of a rough season so far for Stoner as he has been able to play in only 14 games this year, tallying a goal and two assists. While he isn’t in the lineup for his offensive prowess, Stoner is the Ducks’ most physical defenseman and that will be missed over the time he is out.

Anaheim also found out on that they will be without blue liner Sami Vatanen for their two-game road trip that starts tonight as he is out with an illness. The team recalled defenseman Brandon Montour from San Diego and the 22-year-old is set to make his NHL debut tonight with the Ducks play the Calgary Flames.
