Blue Jays Edwin Encarnacion Suspended One Game For Contact With Umpire

During Friday’s 19 inning marathon game between the Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays, Edwin Encarnacion was thrown out for arguing.

Encarnacion was called out on strikes in the first inning and immediately started arguing with home plate umpire Vic Carapazza. The suspension did not occur until Encarnacion made contact with Carapazza.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons was also thrown out after coming out to break up the argument. Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin was also ejected later in the game for arguing balls and strikes. Martin had to be held back by the Jays bench coach after the ejection.

Encarnacion will appeal the suspension and is allowed to play while doing so.
