Five Star Recruits In The 2017 NFL Draft

Five Star Recruits In The 2017 NFL Draft Atlanta Falcons via

For those high school football players lucky enough to be given five star ratings by one of the top national recruiting services, it must be easy to think that your career is laid out for you. Go to college. Play well, don’t get in trouble and then go to the NFL to make your fortune. The best players go to the best teams with the best coaches. These coaches have made careers out of their ability to prepare college players for the professional game.

Some players, like Jadeveon Clowney, are able to go from being the number 1 player at their position in their recruiting class to the number one overall pick in the NFL draft. Others aren’t. Melvin Alaeze was one of the top defensive ends in the 2005 recruiting class. He was kicked off of two teams and ultimately sentenced to 8 years in prison for first-degree assault before completing his college eligibility.

With major companies such as ESPN, Rivals, Scout and 247 Sports giving out star ratings each year, it can be difficult to keep track of who the elite players were coming out of high school. And who’s stock has risen or fallen since beginning college.

There are a variety of reasons why five star recruits don’t end up being among the top prospects in the NFL draft. Players like Vontaze Burfict, Will Hill, La’el Collins and Brian Poole all went undrafted and have made significant impacts. - Customized NFL Gear
