Calgary in win-and-in scenario, St. Louis needs help from Flames

The 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs are exactly two weeks away and things in the Western Conference are starting to take shape. Last night, three teams (Anaheim, San Jose, Edmonton) clinched their spot in the postseason. Tonight, two more teams look to join the party.

The Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues can clinch their playoff berth this evening, with a proper result in their games.

The Flames have the simplest of scenarios, while the Blues would actually need help from Calgary to clinch. Here is how both teams can get into the postseason tonight:

All the Flames need to do to get back into the postseason is defeat the Los Angeles Kings in any fashion. If they take down the Kings, Calgary will have secured a playoff berth for the second time in the last three years. This comes after a stretch where they missed the postseason from 2010-2014.

After falling in the Western Conference Final last spring, the Blues are looking for redemption. They can guarantee their shot of seeking that redemption if two things happen. St. Louis needs to defeat the Arizona Coyotes and then need the Flames to beat the Kings. If the Blues and Flames get two points, both teams will be in the postseason.

Even if St. Louis doesn’t get the two points, they can still make the playoffs. Should the Blues only get one point against Arizona, then Calgary needs to defeat LA in regulation for St. Louis to make the playoffs.

If both the Flames and Blues get the two points in their games tonight, then seven of the eight spots in the West will have already been filled.

Calgary will host the Kings at 9:00 PM ET, while St. Louis visits the Coyotes at 10:30 PM ET.
