Former Redskins Alfred Morris Signs With Cowboys

Dallas, TX – Former Washington Redskins Running back Alfred Morris will sign a two-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The Cowboys will team Morris with Darren McFadden, another veteran they signed to a two-year contract last offseason. McFadden led the Cowboys with 1,089 yards and 4.6 yards per carry in 2015.

Morris, a sixth-round pick by the Redskins in 2012, burst onto the scene with 1,613 rushing yards as a rookie, but his production has declined in each season since. His rushing yards dropped to 1,275 in 2013, 1,074 in 2014 and 751 in 2015. His yards per carry have been 4.8, 4.6, 4.1 and 3.7. All that led other running backs to come off the free-agent market long before Morris, who is still just 27.

Despite all his numbers, his starting job was slowly taken away from him and was used less frequently with Matt Jones and Chris Thompson taking most of the carries, and to a point, even veteran Pierre Thomas taking more carries.

With Morris’ departure, the Redskins will move forward with Jones, Thompson, Silas Redd Jr. and Mack Brown for now, with a potential return for Thomas not out of the question.
