Francisco Cervelli Signs a 3 year Contract Extension with the Pirates

Francisco Cervelli Inks Contract Extension

Francisco Cervelli and the Pirates have agreed to a 3 year contract extension, keeping Cervelli with the team through the 2019 season.

Earlier this year Cervelli stated “I would love to retire with this team,” It seems that Cervelli has gotten his wish.

The 30-year-old catcher is currently making 3.5 million this season, but next year the Pirates have agreed to pay him $9 million for the 2017 season, $10.5 million for the 2018 season and $11.5 million for his 2019 season.

Cervelli has started his 2016 season hitting a respectable .276 with a .386 on base percentage.

However, Francisco’s best performance this year has been his work behind the plate.

Francisco is often called an elite pitch framer and has thrown out some of the best in the league. Cervelli’s 8 throw outs so far this season is the second most in the National League.
