Gareth Bale will return to action against Espanyol

Madrid, Spain – Welsh star Gareth Bale will make his Real Madrid return against Espanyol on Saturday, the club confirmed.

An ankle injury in November kept the Welshman out of action for four months but has returned ahead of schedule.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane kept Bale out of the list against Napoli but was nearly ready to compete.

At the beginning of the week the French strategist said he did not want to take “unnecessary risk” with Bale, thus keeping him out against Napoli.

Bale missed a total of 10 games in Champions League and La Liga while never featuring in Copa del Rey.

The early return for Bale also delights Wales fans and boss Chris Coleman. Bale was a serious doubt for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Ireland at the end of March.

But now it looks like the Dragons’ talisman will be back in action with more than a month to spare.

Espanyol, managed by former Watford and Atletico Madrid boss Quique Sanchez Flores, are ninth in La Liga, 17 points behind Madrid.

Bale’s return will be a timely boost to a team that has never truly replaced him. It will also reduce the pressure on Zidane, who will have the BBC for the first time in 2017.
