GEICO 500 At Talladega Superspeedway Preview

This weekend, NASCAR’s finest head to Talladega Superspeedway for the GEICO 500. This is the 10th race of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. In last year’s running, Dale Earnhardt Jr beat out teammate Jimmie Johnson for the win and a Chase for the Sprint Cup spot.

Amelia Rises Again: After a crash at the Daytona 500, it seemed like Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s best superspeedway chassis named “Amelia” would never see a lap again. But, somehow it’s resurrected for this weekend’s GEICO 500. The chassis has led Dale Jr. to superspeedway wins at both Daytona and Talladega in the past year.

Edwards On A Mission: After last weeks win at Richmond, Carl Edwards had not only won two straight, but had reaffirmed Joe Gibbs Racing’s dominance. After the way JGR won the Daytona 500 to start out the season, Edwards will be the driver to watch on Sunday.

Big Time Blues: As with most superspeedway races, the “Big One” will be the issues this weekend. Several contenders could be knocked out in a huge crash and could even have championship implications down the road.

Lugnuts Made Bad: Tony Stewart took a lot of flak for chastising NASCAR for allowing four out of five lug nuts per wheel. Loose wheels neared pandemic levels so far. For his candor, NASCAR served him a $35,000 fine. Then, after that, NASCAR essentially admitted he was correct by saying teams must tighten all five lugs. Fans and Tony have given NASCAR backlash even after reversing the rule back to 5 by not taking back Stewart’s fine as well. But, at least all wheels should be tight this weekend at 200+ MPH.

Below is some NASCAR Fantasy advice for the GEICO 500 and the drivers to consider and to avoid:

Drivers To Consider: Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Paul Menard,  Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Drivers To Avoid: Trevor Bayne, Tony Stewart, Jamie McMurray, Kyle Larson, Matt Kenseth

Potential Sleepers: Clint Bowyer, Cole Whitt, A.J. Allmendinger, Casey Mears, Austin Dillon

The GEICO 500 From Talladega Superspeedway starts Sunday at 1PM on FOX
