Goldberg - WWE 2K17

Goldberg To Star In WWE 2K17

Leave it to 2K Sports to stir the interwebz, and the wrestling community, after it was announced that Bill Goldberg would be starring in this year’s edition of WWE 2K game, WWE 2K17, and, much like how fans were able to receive pre-order goodies, Goldberg is this year’s, as fans who pre-order will get both the WCW Goldberg and the WWE version, as well.

Goldberg had retired in 2004, after WrestleMania XX, where he faced off in a… Not so well received match against Brock Lesnar, made his return to the ring in 2015, as part of the Legends of Wrestling promotion, which featured the likes of Rob Van Dam, Doc Gallows, Scott Steiner and the like.

Goldberg’s appearance in the game marks the first time that he had been seen on WWE TV in over 12 years, and, if you watch the trailer all the way to the end, there is some indication that Brock Lesnar will also be in the game. His appearance also is a means to pay tribute to his championship careers in both WCW and WWE. Along with both versions of Goldberg, players will also get two playable arenas inspired by WCW Monday Nitro and favorited WCW pay-per-view, Halloween Havoc.

The trailer premiered early Tuesday, to much praise by fans of the WWE and gaming, and since then, as been seen 313,198 times on Youtube. 2K’s vice-president of marketing Chris Snyder spoke about Goldberg’s inclusion in the game and what it meant to the series:

“Goldberg’s return to WWE action through two WWE 2K17 playable characters, along with the WCW Monday Nitro and Halloween Havoc arenas, collectively delivers a unique opportunity to experience one of WWE’s true living legends. Fans can now relive many of their favorite Goldberg moments, as well as create brand new ones, as they decide ‘Who’s Next?’ in the virtual ring.”

And while the trailer has given fans some insight as to who will be in the game, along with some supposed leaked images of the character models of the game, there isn’t a whole lot more than what’s been shown. The final roster and gameplay is still under wraps, and Japanese studio Yuke’s will once again grab the reins of development duties.

WWE 2K17 will be available for XBox One, Playstation 4, XBox 360 and PS3 in October. Pre-orders will be available soon.
