Greg Lewis: Scapegoat or Smart Fire?

Eagles Fire Greg Lewis Eagles Media

Were The Eagles Right To Fire Greg Lewis?

PHILADELPHIA- Following another season of complete chaos at the Wide Receiver position, The Eagles have decided to fire Greg Lewis today. It is hard to say whether the Eagles are using this an opportunity to cover up the seemingly failed decisions of the past few years, with the acquisition of players like Nelson Agholor and Dorial Green-Beckham. Or if the Eagles truly think that they have young talent on this roster that have become a product of poor coaching.

When Lewis was first hired he vowed the young WR corp would see a big change in 2016 and the issues with the drops from the year before would not carry through. Here we stand, not even a year later and Lewis has been shown the door. Howie Roseman and Company continue their push to get weapons and quality coaching around the young Carson Wentz and this troubled offense. They started out the offseason by blocking John DeFilippo from engaging with the New York Jets for a potential Offensive Coordinator position, and I am sure this move will not be the last.

At this time the Eagles have made no official comment on the direction the team is going in their pursuit to fill this position. Moves have to be made every year to better your team, but is this the right one? I am fan of coaches that had to fight hard to be good at their position when they played, it brings understanding to the true effort and time needed to get better as a player each day. Greg Lewis’s time may have been cut short, but if the “Next Guy Up” fails to better this squad yet again, it may not be coaching that is the issue in Philadelphia.
