The Atletico Madrid goalkeeper will undergo surgery on the problem with Jose Maria Gimenez leaving training with a foot injury

Madrid, Spain – Atletico Madrid have been dealt a blow with the news Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak is set to be out for up to four months due to injury, the club has announced.

The 23-year-old international dislocated his shoulder during Atletico’s 3-0 defeat at Villarreal on Monday and was replaced in the 40th minute by Miguel Angel Moya.

Atletico said in a statement: “Jan Oblak underwent radiology tests and an MRI which have confirmed that he is suffering from Bankart lesion in his left shoulder as a consequence of dislocation.

“He will have to undergo surgery in the coming days.”

It’s a huge loss for Atleti, given the Slovenian has been an integral part of the team since signing in July 2014.

To add to this, Uruguayan defender Jose Maria Gimenez left training early on Tuesday with what the club has dubbed an injury to the fifth metatarsal in his left foot.

Atletico have won just two of their last seven La Liga games and are sixth in the standings, 12 points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Diego Simeone’s side hosts Las Palmas on Saturday.
