Intel and NFL Take Add To The Fan Experience

PHILADELPHIA – Intel and NFL Take add to the fan experience with Intel FreeD™ Technology. In case you missed it: The NFL announced, ”Intel’s FreeD Technology, Featuring 360 Replay and ‘Be the Player’ Capabilities, Will Be Installed in Select NFL Stadiums to Create Game Highlights from Every Angle”.

  • Intel and the NFL* will install Intel freeD technology in select NFL stadiums ahead of the 2017 season.
  • Installations will bring immersive 360 replays powered by Intel technology to fans on NFL’s digital and mobile platforms as well as in select stadiums.
  • Broad technology agreement sets the stage for expanded footprint and new digital features like “Be the Player” as seen in Super Bowl LI*.

The goal with this added to technology is to “bring a new level of compelling commentary to live broadcasts as well as digital and mobile NFL platforms”.  With the quickly changing, technology-driven world we live in, the NFL often tries to be on forefront of new technology.

A major feature of Intel’s freeD technology is 360 replay technology, essentially making every inch of the field covered. The select stadiums that will have this tech added, will have dozens of “5k ultra-high definition cameras”, paired up with “Intel-based servers capable of processing upto 1 terabyte of data per 15- to 30- second clip”.

Having crystal clear, instant video of virtually anywhere on the field will without-a-doubt help replays and challenges be handle much more efficiently. Working that in with the NFL’s efforts to make sure that reviews are being handled from one centralized location. Fans can finally hope that some much needed consistency will be added to this part of the game.

James Carwana, general manager, Intel Sports Group had these comments about the initiative:

“The Intel Sports Group is committed to transforming how sports leagues and rights holders can deliver immersive experiences that enhance fan engagement”

“By integrating Intel technology into select NFL stadiums, we’re enabling unparalleled views of the action to some of the most passionate fans in the world. With Intel’s freeD technology, we’ll offer fans a more immersive viewing experience, draw in new content engagement and push the boundaries of sports innovation.”

Later, Vishal Shah, senior vice president of Digital Media for the NFL shared mutual excitement:

“We are very excited to be in partnership with a technology leader like Intel”

“Fans will be able to experience compelling new vantage points of game action, both at home and in the stadium. We look forward to seeing what we can build together with Intel freeD technology, and driving innovative sports experiences for our fans.”
