Jays Look to Rebound Against Rays

MLB

After dropping their opening two games in Baltimore, the Blue Jays look to rebound tonight against the 2-1 Rays. The Jays couldn’t manage to push across many runs, getting just 3 in the two game series. The starting pitching for the Blue Jays did well allowing just 5 runs in 13 innings. The bullpen did well as well, only allowing 1 run in 7 innings of work.

The biggest issue for the Blue Jays was their inability to hit with runners on base. They would go 1 for 16 as a team with RISP. As a team that is known to live and die by the long ball, it really wasn’t there for the team to start the year.

Jose Bautista is supposed to be back with a chip on his shoulder this year after an off-season that saw him settle for little more than the Qualifying Offer, managed only 1 hit in his 9 at bats. After the way the Oriole’s GM talked about him in the off-season this was not how the former all-star wanted to start his season.

The other marquee signing of the off-season was Kendrys Morales who didn’t quite make the impact the team hoped for in his debut, as he went 1-8 in the first two games. A team that lost Encarnacion needs the power to help support the rest of the team and keep Donaldson protected in the line up.

Meanwhile the Rays put up some offence in their two wins against the Yankees winning 7-3 and 4-1. The Rays have always been known for their starting pitching as their teams biggest strength. The Jays face a tough 4 game series against the Rays as they look to get their season back on track.
