By way of twitter on Monday, January 30, 2017, Circle Sport with the Motorsports Group announced that their no. 33 Chevrolet SS will be piloted by nephew of Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeffrey Earnhardt for the Daytona 500. Jeffrey Earnhardt will have a spot guaranteed in this year’s race because the car does have a charter.

While Earnhardt has never competed in the Daytona 500 he has competed in other events at the iconic race track. Earnhardt has run one Camping World Truck Series race at the track, three NASCAR Xfinity Series races, and four Cup races at the track. His best finish in these races at the track is a seventh place finish in the 2011 Camping World Truck series race. On the road course side on Daytona, he has also notched up two starts in the Rolex 24.

In his Cup series career, Earnhardt has made 24 starts with 22 of those coming last season, nineteen of which were with Go Fas Racing while the other the came with BK Racing. Earnhardt’s best career finish came at Richmond International Raceway when he placed in the fifth position and will look to improve that mark starting at the Daytona 500.
