John Cena Paying it Forward!

When you reflect on the careers of Kurt Angle and John Cena, there are so many accolades between them that comparisons will always be made as to who had the better career. John Cena is a 16 time world champion while Kurt Angle has held several world championships in various promotions including WWE, TNA, and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Kurt Angle won a Gold Medal in Olympic Wrestling with a “broken friggin neck” while Johns Cena has demonstrated longevity rarely seen in today’s WWE. Kurt Angle puts on a clinic in every match. John Cena has a limited move set. John Cena is the flag bearer for the WWE for the past 10-15 years while Kurt Angle has been elsewhere due to health concerns, per WWE officials.

Why John Cena?

There are several talents whose credentials are on par with John Cena and who had historic matches with Kurt Angle. Triple H, the Rock, Shawn Michaels, Samoa Joe and AJ Styles (even though their feuds were in TNA), Hulk Hogan, the Undertaker, and the list goes on and on. At the end of the day, any of these talents would be great selections for inducting Angle. None of them make the case like John Cena. John Cena has done it all. Becoming the role model for the kids, granting more Make-A-Wish Foundation wishes than any superstar in history, even selling more merchandise than anyone on the roster. He has replaced Fred Flintstone as the spokesman for Fruity Pebbles. Despite all of that, none of those things make him the perfect individual to induct Kurt Angle.

On June 27, 2002, following Vince McMahon‘s advice for the roster to find some ruthless aggression within themselves, Kurt Angle would present an open challenge to any wrestler in the dressing room.  John Cena would answer that challenge claiming to have ruthless aggression. Despite his best effort, he would fall to the Olympic Gold Medalist but the match was highly competitive. The quality of this performance would bring several stars to the ring to congratulate the new baby face. This debut would kick start, arguably, the most important career in the history of World Wrestling Entertainment. John Cena would go on to headline countless WrestleManias. He would battle virtually every legend WWE has to offer. Lead actor movie roles would come his way. In addition, he received several product endorsements. The question is, would any of that have happened if not for Kurt Angle?

Paying it Forward

Kurt Angle has been away from the WWE Universe since 2005 when his well documented substance abuse cost him his spot on the roster. Angle would find continued success in TNA wrestling capturing the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and engaging in feuds with new stars including AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Sting, Jeff Jarrett, and Bobby Lashley. He would travel to Japan and defeat Brock Lesnar for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

There was the formation of a dominant faction known as the Main Event Mafia including Sting, Kevin Nash, Booker T, and Scott Steiner. There would be the farewell tour after being inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame. In the end though, he always has aspirations to return to WWE. On several occasions, Angle would reference it not being the right time to return. But this year, the stars aligned and Kurt Angle is primed to make his highly anticipated return to the brand that made him a household name.

As he prepares to enter company of past wrestling greats including Bruno Sammartino, Bret Hart, and Andre the Giant, he will do so with the company’s biggest international superstar inducting him. A man who had nothing until Kurt Angle gave him the opportunity.

Oh It’s True

After reflecting on such a wonderful career that spanned twenty years, under the glitz and glamour of the WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony, John Cena will give back. Cena will honor the man who helped to make him the superstar he could be. Kurt Angle will take his place among the immortals. When it is all done, one has to wonder, when the time comes, who will pay it forward and return the favor by inducting John Cena when his time comes?

Who do you think should induct John Cena when his time comes? Put your response in the comment section below.
