John Ross Looks To Build On Impressive Combine

Washington’s John Ross III was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the eight pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.  Ross’ stock has been soaring since his record-setting workout at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.  Ross ran the 40 yard dash at a record 4.22 seconds, topping Chris Johnson’s 4.24 second attempt in 2008.

He will be ready to start from day one for the Bengals and will provide top-notch speed that will have defensive coordinators up late at night planning for him.

Electric Playmaker

Ross registered 1729 yards across three seasons at Washington.  During his senior campaign, he hauled in 81 receptions for 1150 yards and 17 touchdowns.  In a high powered, spread offense, Ross was able to establish himself as one of the premier wideouts in the college game.  His 14.2 yards per receptions is quite impressive, and shows just a bit of what I believe he’ll bring to the table.

The truth is, Ross has a chance to be a better pro than college player.  He has been compared to DeSean Jackson, who is one of the best deep threats in recent history. Ross is a solid route runner though, which could allow him to take his game to the next level.

What to Expect

Ross will absolutely compete for a starting job.  He could do that on any roster.  Players with his combination of speed, hands, and route running are not all that common.  As I write this prior to the draft, I also believe John Ross III will be the first wide receiver off the board on Thursday night. The talent is simply salivating, and the Bengals just landed a top-level talent.
