Furniture Row Racing announced that Erik Jones will drive its second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car in 2017, officially confirming after days of speculation regarding the possibility.

Jones will pilot a number 77 Toyota with primary sponsorship for 22 races from 5 Hour Energy. Jones currently drives in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for Joe Gibbs Racing, a partner organization to Furniture Row Racing.

Jones currently leads the point standings in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with 3 wins in 2016 and was the 2015 Camping World Truck Series champion. Jones has made 3 starts in the Sprint Cup Series to date, both in substitution roles. He ran one race in the number 18 while Kyle Busch was out with a leg injury in 2015 and he drove Matt Kenseth’s 20 Toyota during Matt’s two race suspension last fall, with a best finish of 12th at Texas Motor Speedway.

Furniture Row Racing was formed in 2005 by Barney Visser. The team has 3 wins, one by Regan Smith and two by Jones’ 2017 teammate Martin Truex, Jr. Truex got the team its highest points finishing position last season, ending up 4th in the final standings.
