Julen Lopetegui has been appointed as the new head coach of Spain

Madrid, Spain – Spain have named Julen Lopetegui as manager to replace Vicente del Bosque whose contract expired after Euro 2016, the Spanish federation said on their website.

Lopetegui, 49, had most recently been in charged of Portuguese club Porto will be officially be presented on Thursday.

Lots of speculations had been floating around the Spanish federation with other names like Jose Antonio Camacho and Joaquin Caparros, who were initially the favorites for the job.

Lopetegui, who had been in negotiations to takeover English club Wolverhampton, will now have to break that contract.

Lopetegui has experience with managing Spain as he had been ahead of the Spanish sub 19, sub 20 and sub 21, where he won two championships at Europa sub 19 and sub 21 in 2012 and 2013.
