Juventus extend contract of defender Stephan Lichtsteiner to 2018

Turin, Italy – Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner has signed a one-year extension to his contract, keeping him at the Serie A club until 2018, the club announced Thursday.

The right-back’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of this season, but he has now opted to stay put for an additional year.

“Juventus Football is pleased to announce that wing-back Stephan Lichtsteiner has renewed his Juventus contract until 30 June 2018 in a deal that will extend his black and white journey into at least its seventh year.

Lichtsteiner’s contributions over the past five and a half seasons have irrevocably rewritten the club’s history books, the Swiss defender one of six current Juve stars to have played a part in every one of the Old Lady’s five consecutive league titles.”

Lichtsteiner previously appeared to be on his way out of the Turin club after losing his starting berth to Dani Alves, but he has fought his way back into Massimiliano Allegri’s plans and has now been rewarded with a new contract.

The 33-year-old joined Juventus from Lazio in June 2011 and has since made 161 appearances in all competitions for the Old Lady, scoring 13 goals in the process.

Since joining, the Switzerland international has been part of every one of the club’s five consecutive league titles, including an Italian Cup.
