Cubs Kris Bryant Goes 5-5 With 3 Homers Against Reds

When the Chicago Cubs drafted Kris Bryant 2nd overall in the 2013 draft, they knew they where getting a power hitting third baseman. Many scouts said that Bryant had power to all fields and could handle tough pitches.

It did not take Kris long to show his power in the minors. He homered his way through class-a ball and later went on to win the Double-A homerun derby with the Tennessee Smokies.

At the end of the 2014 season, Bryant was named USA Today Minor League Player of the Year. He was ranked the number 1 prospect in baseball.

As the 2015 season began, Kris was invited to spring training with the Cubs. He hit 9 homers in 40 at-bats and had a slugging percentage of 1.175.

Bryant was sent back to Triple-A after spring training for 12 days. This was done so that the Cubs could gain another year of control on the young third baseman.

Finally on April 17th, 2015, Kris Bryant made his major league debut against the San Diego Padres. He went 0-4 with three strikeouts.

Despite no homers in the month of April, Bryant batted .318 with a .455 OBP.

On May 9th, Kris Bryant launched a 3-run homer against the Milwaukee Brewers. That is all that Bryant needed to heat up, he hit a total of 7 homers in the month of May and had 22 RBI’s.

In 151 games in the 2015 season, Bryant hit 26 homers, and had 99 RBI’s. Bryant was selected to his first All-star game and also participated in the Homerun Derby.

As 2016 began, the Cubs looked to lean more on the All-star third baseman. Bryant has not disappointed and on June 27th, 2016, Bryant did something no big leaguer has done before.

Kris Bryant hit 3 homeruns and 2 doubles in the Cubs 11-8 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

Bryant hit homeruns number 19, 20, and 21 on Monday making him the youngest Cub to go 5-5 with 6 RBI’s. He is 10 days younger than Ernie Banks who also completed the feat in 1955.

The third baseman had 5 extra base hits which were the most of a Cub in a game since 1885. Bryant also recorded 16 total bases which are the most in the majors this year.
