Kyle Busch Easily Wins Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond

Another NASCAR XFINITY Series race has concluded, and once again Kyle Busch puts on a clinic. Kyle led 197 of the 250 laps Friday night to win the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway.  #20-Erik Jones finished second, followed by #22-Brad Keselowski, #1-Elliott Sadler, and #7-Justin Allgaier rounding out the top 5.

Kyle Busch took the lead for the first time on Lap 51, after winning the race off pit road. He led the next 106 laps before making his second and final pit stop of the night. Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Erik Jones took the lead during that cycle for two laps before Busch closed out for the win.

“I was down to begin with, never give up I guess,” Busch told NBCSN after the race. “Just keep going, keep working and keep doing what we can do. Obviously an awesome job by my crew chief, Chris Gayle. A true testament to everyone on this NOS Energy drink Camry, this Toyota was awesome today.”

The victory was the 84th of Busch’s career and his sixth at Richmond. He sits one win behind Kevin Harvick (seven) for the most at Richmond in the Xfinity Series. Busch has also now led 1,558 laps in his 14 Xfinity starts this season.

Other storylines from Friday’s Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway include:

  • JR Motorsports seems to have a sweet spot for Richmond International Speedway as of late, and tonight was no different. The team placed all three cars in the top 10 with Elliott Sadler finished fourth, Justin Allgaier fifth, and Alex Bowman ninth.
  • Ty Dilion (6th) scored his first top 10 finish in a month, coming at the right time as the XFINITY Series Chase looms.
  • Mid-Ohio winner Justin Marks spun to bring out the first caution and finished 22nd.

Next Race Up: The NASCAR XFINITY Series wraps up it’s regular season next Saturday at Chicagoland Speedway for the Drive for Safety 300. The top twelve in points following that race will fight for the championship.
