Madrid, Spain – With La Liga nearing its end of season, and transfer rumors sparking up, we will analyze who is Theo Hernandez. Also, the reasons why Real Madrid would start a war with Spanish capital rivals Atletico Madrid. Last, why many European giants have great interest in the 19-year-old left back.

Who is Theo Hernandez?

Theo Hernandez’s remarkable season with Deportivo Alaves sparked interest from several clubs in Europe. Among them, Real Madrid. But, who is Theo Hernandez? Theo is a 19-year-old left back on loan at Alaves from Atletico Madrid. The a left-back has played in 29 league and cup games for the Basque Country club. In many ways he resembles a young Gareth Bale with his ability to charge up the sideline, outpacing and out-muscling rival players, and also cause danger close to the opposition goal. Defensively he is strong and aggressive in the tackle – and could be a back-up at centre back should their be need for it.

Also, born in Marseille, France. His father is Jean-François Hernandez, also a soccer player that played for Atletico Madrid. Theo joined Atleti in 2008 along with his brother Lucas, who currently plays for the Colchoneros. In August of last year, Theo extended his contract with Atleti until 2021.

Why is Real Madrid willing to go to war with Atleti?

Theo would be ideal back-up to first choice left back Marcelo, who turn 29 in May. The youngster has been a revelation on loan at Alaves this season, and clearly has the ability and personality to be a big star. Zinedine Zidane has praised Theo Hernandez to fuel speculation Real Madrid are ready to make a move for the Atletico Madrid-owned defender.

“Theo is a good player,” said Zidane. “No doubt about that.

“But nothing else. I am focused on what I must do with my players, nothing else.”

Additionally, Fabio Coentrao has been a disaster of a signing. To the point that he is not even training with the squad this year. The Portuguese defender will almost surely leave the club at the end of the season. Despite having Nacho replace Marcelo from time to time, the defender is more suited to the center back position. With Raphael Varane having injury problems and Pepe nearing the end of his career, Nacho has seen more playing time than previous years.

Will Theo leave Atleti in favor of their rivals Real Madrid?

According to Spanish daily sports newspaper Marca, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is ready to pay the 24 million euros release clause for the left back. Spanish capital rivals have pact not to sell players to one another, but European champions appear to have broken it. And Atletico Madrid chiefs are thought to be so angry at the backhanded move by their rivals, they will snub the traditional pre-match meal before their encounter at the Bernabeu on Saturday. Additional, they resigned to losing Theo, especially after his agent told the club that it is Theo’s desire to play for Real Madrid, according to the newspaper.

Last week, Theo told AS, another Spanish daily sports newspaper, that he was aware of Real Madrid’s interest in singing him.

“But I am very relaxed, it is not the first time I have been linked with a big club,” Theo said. “I belong to Atletico.”

Also, Diego Simeone spoke about Theo’s future and rumors. Simeone said he was happy with the youngster’s progress.

“I always wish our players the best,” he said. “When the season is over, we will start to get into those type of things.

“I spoke with Theo a month or so ago. We know what we said to each other.

“I am very happy with how he is doing.”
