Forward Landon Donovan will come out of retirement to join Los Angeles Galaxy

Los Angeles, CA – Former U.S. men’s national team captain Landon Donovan will come out of retirement to join his old club Los Angeles Galaxy, Kevin Baxter from the LA Times reports.

An announcement could be made on Thursday and the deal is said to be for the remainder of the season.

Donovan’s last appearance was in the MLS Cup Final in 2014, when the Galaxy defeated the New England Revolution, securing the club’s fifth MLS cup. His last international team appearance was in October of that same year.

It’s worth saying that this isn’t Donovan’s first return as he took a short hiatus to Cambodia in 2012 due to exhaustion to later return that year and win an MLS Cup.

Donovan accolades are filled with six MLS Cups – two with the San Jose Earthquakes and four with the Galaxy – as well as two Supporters Shields and a US Open Cup in Los Angeles. No to say the least but he was also a key part in US men’s national Gold Cup and World Cup accomplishments.
