Laquon Treadwell Selected 23rd Overall In The 2016 NFL Draft

NFL: Laquon Treadwell

With the 23rd pick in the 2016 NFL Draft the Minnesota Vikings  have selected Wide Receiver Laquon Treadwell from University of Mississippi.

Standing 6’2″ and weighing in at 221 pounds, this 20-year-old comes into the NFL after finishing an illustrious career with Ole Miss. He was a five-star recruit coming out of Crete, Illinois . Every school had an offer for the consensus, number 1 player in the country in 2013. He became the first player in school history to become SEC Freshman of the Year in 2013 with 72 catches for 608 yards and five touchdowns and Freshman All-America honors.

Treadwell was on pace to surpass the numbers he put up during his sophmore year but had a nasty left leg injury that derailed his season.

Laquon returned for his junior year and led the team in all receiving categories. He finished with 82 catches for 1,153 yards and 11 touchdowns while starting all 13 games. Laquon earned First Team All-SEC and All-America honors. He also became the first Ole Miss receiver to be named as a finalist for the coveted Biletnikoff Award.

Treadwell has a long frame and a extremely high catch radius, which will help him pluck the ball away from defenders easily at the next level. He’s very strong and has received the moniker “Mega-Quon” for his ability to out-muscle and use brute strength to bring down the ball when it’s in the air.

Laquon does lack top-end speed (ran a 4.63 40 yard dash time) and is not a polished route runner. He kind of lacks a second-gear to kick in to. Treadwell does have an occasional drop due to him focusing on getting upfield before securing the football.

Laquon was consistently productive in college and will thrive on the next level.  He has potential to succeed with the Vikings and should be an immediate help as a game-changing receiver.
