Laremy Tunsil Selected 13th Overall in 2016 NFL Draft

NFL: Laremy Tunsil

With the 13th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft the Miami Dolphins  have selected Offensive Tackle Laremy Tunsil from the University of Mississippi.

Standing 6’5″ and weighing in at 310 pounds, this 21-year-old comes into the NFL with some prior baggage, but with the potential to be a perennial NFL tackle.

Coming out of High School, Tunsil was the #1 lineman recruit in the country, and he choose Ole Miss to attend.

Tunsil as a true freshman started nine games at left tackle earning second-team All-SEC notice from league media and various Freshman All-American honors.

In his sophomore year Laremy missed two games with a partially torn bicep. Even so, he earned a second team All SEC from the coaches and first-team All SEC nod from the Associated Press.

Tunsil ended his career in Refrigerator Perry style, plowing through two yards to score on a throw-back pass behind the line of scrimmage against Oklahoma State in the Sugar Bowl.

Off the field, Tunsil has exhibited some questionable behavior. In June 2014  Laremy was charged with domestic assault against his stepfather supposedly protecting his mother’s name. Those charges were dismissed. Later that summer the NCAA suspended Tunsil seven games due to financiall gifts he received for transportation (in which he did not tell NCAA investigators.)

Laremy has the prototypical body of a perfect NFL left tackle. He has the elite foot quickness of the most athletic NFL tackle, and his length is unmatched to NFL rushing ends.

One of the best pass protectors in the draft in recent years. Uses textbook hands technique to drive off rushers. He has an excellent punching hand to stop ends at the snap. Laremy understands footwork and positioning in pass protection is very polished, along with his football awareness, like instincts of upcoming blitzes and incoming defenders.

Even though Tunsil has had limited snaps in his college career, along with a history of injuries and legal issues, he has potential to suceed with the Dolphins and should be an immediate help as a passing blocker.

There was an episode prior to the start of the draft in which a video surfaced of Tunsil smoking Marijuana out of a gas mask. His slide down draft boards seemed epic. He is going to show up lunch pail in hand and go to work for the city of Miami.
