Laurent Blanc Signs Two-Year Contract Extension With PSG

Ligue 1

Paris, France – Paris Saint Germain has inked Frenchman Laurent Blanc to a two-year contract extension, ending his uncertainty over his future with the club.

The club was said to have been thinking of sacking Blanc as he has not been able to get the club over the hump in Champions League. Despite all of this, Blanc has won back-to-back Ligue 1 titles, with the club set to win again after building a 24-point lead over Monaco.

Blanc, who served as France coach between 2010 and 2012, is now tied to the club until June 2018, and described the extension as a “show of faith” from the club’s Qatari owners.

“Quite simply, we need to look to the future, that’s the way I see it,” he told the club’s website. “Of course, it’s a strong show of faith, and I’m very happy, also for my staff. A coach is nothing without his staff. For us, continuing the adventure is a show of faith but also a big responsibility.

“The club has ambitions both nationally and in Europe, and we’ll do all we can to reach those objectives. We’ll get there; we’re ready. We’re aware that we’re at a big club where expectations are very high.”

Blanc took over in the summer of 2013, replacing the Real Madrid-bound Carlo Ancelotti. As well as the consecutive league titles, PSG have also won the Coupe de la Ligue in each of the last two seasons.

With Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho taking their services to the English Premier League, the club is now setting their faith in Blanc to lead them in the Champions League competition.

The news also ends the speculation linking Mourinho with the PSG job.
