London, United Kingdom – Deportivo La Coruña forward Lucas Perez has joined Premier League side Arsenal on a 9.8 million euros four-year contract, the club has announced.

In a statement Arsenal said “Spanish forward Lucas Perez is joining us from Deportivo La Coruna.”

The 27-year-old scored 19 goals in all competitions. Perez began his career in Spain with Atletico Madrid C and then Rayo Vallecano and had spells with Karpaty Lviv in Ukraine and PAOK in Greece followed, before he returned to his home region of Galicia with Deportivo La Coruna in 2014.

Arsene Wenger said: “He’s not only a goalscorer, he’s a guy who combines well with partners, who can give a final ball and makes good runs. He’s got a good eye for goal and had an outstanding season last year.”

“We’re delighted to welcome Lucas to the club and please stay close to for confirmation of his squad number,” concluded the statement.

Arsenal had been the focal point of critics over the last transfer period for not being able to attract any top players to the club. Many assure that it’s in part because Wenger is still at the helm. With only three matches into the season, Arsenal finds itself in the middle of the pack and five points behind Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.
