Lucas Vazquez

Madrid, Spain – Real Madrid right winger Lucas Vazquez has gone through several testing and has been diagnosed with a medial collateral sprain in his left knee, the club announced.

“Following the tests carried out on Lucas Vazquez, in the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with a medial collateral sprain in his left knee. His recovery will continue to be assessed,” said the announcement

The Galician exit the game on Sunday against Valencia on the 76th minute of the game after resenting his left knee. He was then replaced by Jese.

The club did not provide a time-frame for his absence, but he will likely be out against Deportivo La Coruña on a critical last game of the season as Real Madrid is still in the fight for La Liga title.

Vazquez is from a small town outside La Coruña and was looking forward to be present and available for the team. Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane, will likely have to make a final decision days before the match.

The 24-year-old has been very useful in Zidane’s tactics and has taken advantage of each opportunity given, becoming Zidane’s 12th man and first in line to substitute a starter.

Though Real Madrid has a very good chance of winning La Liga, should Barcelona slip, Champions League is not too far away and Zidane may want to have all his possible players available.

Vazquez joins Keylor Navas, Dani Carvajal, Gareth Bale and Luka Modric in the injury list.
