The Manchester Derby – Preview of The Big Game

Manchester Derby

Premier League

The Manchester Derby is by far and away the biggest rivalry in English football. El Clasico of the English game takes place Thursday. Let’s take a look at the game as it stands.

Manchester, England – The Manchester Derby is by far and away the biggest rivalry in English football. To many, El Clasico of the English game.

Who’s on form?

Manchester United are the form side at the minute. The Red Devil’s have gone 23 games unbeaten in the Premier League this season. They extended that run in the previous game with a 2-0 win over Burnley. Goals from the returning Anthony Martial and veteran Wayne Rooney ensured United won the game.

City are coming off the back of an FA CUP exit to Arsenal. Pep Guardiola’s side were beaten 2-1 by the struggling gunners. City have only won 2 of their last 5 games, drawing and losing the other 3. The Manchester side will be desperate to get back to winning ways with a win over their rivals.

Players to watch.

Anthony Martial

Martial started down the middle for United on Sunday. He scored a brilliant solo goal and assisted Rooney for his. His pace and power gave United a new weapon, a weapon they didn’t possess until Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered his injury. Martial on form is one of the most dangerous young players in the league. United fans will be hoping he turns it on Thursday night.

Kevin De Bruyne

De Bruyne has already been a torn in United’s side this season, scoring against the Red Devil’s in their previous meeting. The Belgian has been one of City’s top performers, which may come as a pain to the man who let him go at Chelsea, Jose Mourinho. De Bruyne picked up two assists in his last outing against Southampton in the league. That means his total assist tally for the season is now 13, making him the leading assist maker in the league. United will have to wary of his threat to stand any chance of winning this game.

Predicted outcome and Starting Lineups.

I predict a 2-1 United win.  United are really hard to beat this season and right now I don’t feel City have the fire power to change that. Martial and Rashford will prove too much for the City back four, and with Sergio Aguero a doubt for the game I cannot see City damaging United’s.
